How long does it take to get my braces off?
The doctor's answer
The removal of braces consists of three stages: removal of the braces themselves, professional hygiene with polishing of the teeth, and placement of the retainer. Braces are removed with special instruments in about 10 minutes from each tooth row. But while removing the system can be quick, removing the translucent adhesive residue from the enamel will take time and care.
The protocol for removing braces at Confidenza is a complete oral hygiene routine that emphasizes the polishing step. The hygienist first removes soft plaque and tartar, then removes any remaining material and thoroughly polishes the enamel. We recommend that after removal, we do a hygiene with a microscope — this way the doctor will see and remove the smallest remnants of material. The whole procedure lasts 1.5-2 hours depending on whether a microscope is used or not.
The final step — fitting the retainer will take about 40 minutes. The doctor will glue a thin wire to the back of the teeth from fang to fang and shine a light on each tooth to hold the material in place.
On the day of braces removal, we recommend scheduling a clinic visit of at least 2 hours.
