Sapphire braces are made of artificially grown sapphire, a solid transparent material with good light transmission ability. The locks of such braces merge with the color of the enamel and look much more aesthetically pleasing on the teeth than their metal counterparts. In addition to aesthetics, sapphire has high strength, so they do not chip and withstand chewing loads for the entire period of orthodontic treatment.
Sapphire braces are most often ligature braces by design: ligatures (elastic rubber bands or metal rings) hold the arch in the groove of the bracket.
The use of transparent elastic ligatures affects the aesthetics — the ligatures get stained from food dyes and stand out against the system. But this problem is eliminated by changing the ligatures on activation once a month.

Ceramic braces
White translucent braces made of polycrystalline aluminum oxide are called ceramic. Ceramics do not absorb food coloring pigments and retain an aesthetic appearance throughout orthodontic treatment.
Self-ligating ceramic braces hold the arches with lids embedded in the lock, so you do not need to use ligatures with them. Such braces are much easier to clean after eating and work more effectively than ligature ones. Ceramic braces are more fragile than sapphire ones, so you need to avoid solid products during treatment.

Plastic braces
Plastic braces are the most inexpensive option for bite correction, but they are also less reliable. Plastic braces are fragile and wear out quickly, so they are not suitable for long-term treatment of complex pathologies. In addition, the aesthetics of such braces do not last long — porous material absorbs dyes and almost immediately loses its original white color.
To maintain aesthetics and minimize the peeling and breakage of plastic braces, it is necessary to follow a strict diet: do not eat colorful and hard foods. If you follow the diet, you may be able to maintain the appearance of the braces, but their effectiveness is still quite low compared to ceramic and sapphire options.

Care of aesthetic braces
Modern materials for aesthetic braces have resistance to food coloring and are quite durable. But they are still more demanding to care for than metal systems.If you choose ligature braces with elastic bands, then be prepared for the fact that elastic transparent ligatures will be stained from black tea, coffee, red wine, tomato paste and other dyes. Therefore, it is better to reduce the consumption of coloring products, as the ligatures will begin to stand out strongly against the background of white braces and teeth. But even if they are colored, at each activation, on average once a month, the ligatures are replaced with new ones and your system will look aesthetically pleasing again.
Also, with any braces, and especially with aesthetic ones, you need to give up solid food, since there is a possibility of chipping the bracket or part of it. Peeling off the braces slows down the treatment and increases its cost, since new locks will have to be purchased additionally.

Give up hard and viscous food - nuts, lollipops, chips, popcorn, grains, seeds.
- Cut hard fruits, vegetables, and meat into small pieces.
- Limit the consumption of coloring products: black tea, coffee, red wine, tomato paste and soda with dyes.

For cleaning, use 2 brushes: an orthodontic one with a slot for braces and a monopuckle one for cleaning hard-to-reach places around the bracket.

After brushing your teeth, use an orthodontic brush and dental floss to remove food residues in the dental gaps and under the arch.

Use mouthwash after brushing your teeth or if it is not possible to brush your teeth after eating.

Buy an irrigator — a device for cleaning the mouth with a jet of a special solution. It effectively cleans teeth, braces and hard-to-reach places.

How to choose aesthetic braces?
All braces systems have their own design features, differ in the principle of action, treatment time and limitations.
