Modern dental practice is impossible without perfect equipment, quality materials and compliance with treatment protocols, which directly depends on financial investment in education and experience of a dentist, competent organization of work and technical equipment of the clinic.

It is not surprising that the most advanced doctors, those who have mastered modern methods of treatment before others, and have already gained considerable personal experience in the application of world technologies in the Russian dental practice, tend to work in clinics equipped with the best diagnostic and treatment equipment, in a team of equally experienced dentists of all specialties.

Dental microscope

Dental microscope – this is a modern device that allows you to reach new heights in the quality of dental treatment.

Dental microscopes Leica, with which the clinic «Konfidencia» – is a first-of-its-kind system originally developed for dental applications.

Perfect optics, LED illumination, high-resolution visualization technology, ergonomics, aesthetics, hygiene, innovation and flawlessness Leica have created an absolutely dentist-friendly microscope.

Historically, with the advent of the microscope in world dentistry, it became clear that the ability to see the smallest details – is the ability to accurately diagnose, choose the right method of treatment and, most importantly, flawlessly implement it.

Practice shows that it is at these stages (diagnosis, choice of treatment method, implementation) that most mistakes are made, resulting in patient complaints and the need for repeated treatment.

If you are faced with such a problem, do not rush, make sure of the experience and professionalism of the dentist and the availability of the necessary equipment in the clinic, because repeated treatment of the tooth leads, eventually, to its loss.

Benefits of treatment with a microscope

In the initial treatment
  • Timely detection of caries, as initial caries is often hidden

  • Performing a thorough layered restoration with restoration of the anatomical shape (natural appearance) and function of the tooth

  • Minimally invasive, i.e. as gentle as possible for the tooth, treatment with guaranteed removal of carious tissue

  • Restorations made with a microscope provide a more accurate match to the occlusion (tooth alignment).

On re-treatment:
  • To reliably see defects in fillings and critical areas of carious cavities, where secondary caries develops (caries under the filling), even with difficult access: closer to the gingiva or spreading under the gingiva, or in the area of tooth contact.

  • Perform high-quality retreatment with guaranteed removal of decayed and weakened by previous interventions tooth tissue, with the formation of the correct shape of the cavity and careful layer-by-layer restoration, ensuring a secure fit of the filling and its durability.

  • The microscope allows the treatment and restoration of small mechanical chips of dental hard tissue, traumatic or otherwise, with minimal treatment of intact tooth structures. This is particularly relevant in the aesthetically visible area, as the restorations become indistinguishable from the tooth tissue.

What is being treated under the microscope?

Treatment of gingival defects

In the treatment and restoration of gingival defects of carious and non-carious origin, the so-called tooth necks, where the leading symptom is usually sensitivity of these areas of the tooth at the initial stage, and in cases of gingival recession and root denudation, when the unaesthetic appearance of the affected tooth surface becomes a concern, the microscope makes it possible to ensure:

    • Gentle retraction (pushing back) of the gingival margin for the duration of treatment and removal of sub-gingival plaque (tartar), if present
    • Visualization of the boundary of damaged and undamaged hard tissues of the tooth to form a cavity within the boundaries of healthy tissues (failure to perform this step is critical for this type of defects and leads to persistent sensitivity after treatment, loss of fillings, recurrence of caries, increase of non-carious defect).
    • Perform an aesthetic restoration, restoring the lost natural gingival relief of the tooth
The treatment of gingival defects is often performed because of the unaesthetic or failure of previously placed fillings. The use of a microscope in this case will make it possible to perform the restoration unnoticeable.

Treatment of tooth canals

In cases of complications of tooth decay, pain, tooth destruction, diagnoses such as pulpitis or periodontitis, endodontic treatment of the tooth becomes necessary.

The success of endodontic treatment depends entirely on the careful and accurate removal of all diseased tissues, including the canal system of the tooth, followed by their qualitative closure and restoration of the crown part by a method adequate to the degree of destruction. The use of a microscope increases the accuracy and therefore the quality of endodontic treatment.

The structure of dental canals is so diverse that knowledge of anatomy, topography and even years of medical experience are not enough to detect and pass all the canals in a particular clinical case, because as a result of various pathological processes, the tooth cavity can be significantly narrowed or completely closed.

The risk of over-treatment of the root canal is quite high without adequate visualization and illumination of the working field. Anatomically, tooth roots can be thin, curved and fragile enough that over-treatment can lead to cracks, root fracture and eventually tooth loss. The microscope allows for minimally invasive treatment while preserving healthy tissue, which will save the tooth.

Tooth canal repair

When performing repeat endodontic treatment (root canal retreatment), the microscope becomes absolutely indispensable when it is necessary to remove old filling material from the tooth, both in the crown and in the canals. These materials may fuse with the tooth tissue and be completely indistinguishable or poorly visible when evaluated without a microscope.

For successful repeated endodontic treatment it is necessary to completely free the crown part and canal system of the tooth from infected substances (filling materials, necrotic tissues in previously unpassed parts of the canal or in missed canals). Create conditions for quality irrigation (washing) of the canals with antiseptic solutions and their further closure and restoration of the crown part by a method adequate to the degree of destruction.

Diagnosis and treatment monitoring with a microscope

The microscope can be used to monitor any stage of any therapeutic intervention, including professional hygiene, if necessary for better diagnosis, evaluation of the quality of the stage and quality completion of the procedure.

Reliable detection of tooth conditions incompatible with its preservation (cracks, perforations, extensive carious lesions, etc.) with the help of a microscope allows to avoid physical, moral and material costs for its preservation, to make a timely decision on extraction and choose a method of replacement. Often getting rid of such a tooth leads to an improvement in the general state of health, as a consequence, getting rid of a chronic focus of infection.

For information about the procedure and indications for treatment with the microscope in each specific case, consultation with a specialist is necessary
