Computed tomography of the maxillofacial region is a modern and most accurate method of research, which allows you to obtain information about the condition of teeth, bone tissue, nasal sinuses, structures of the middle and inner ear. The results of the examination are ready within a few minutes.

This type of diagnostics is indispensable for planning a competent and individualized scheme of treatment or prosthetics. Thanks to the possibilities of the latest technologies and equipment in dentistry, it has become unthinkable to carry out any therapeutic manipulations without a full-fledged preliminary examination with 3D images of the teeth and jaw.

In what cases does it apply?

Computed tomography of the dento-mandibular system is required for dentists-therapists, orthodontists, periodontists, and dental surgeons to provide quality services.

In order to successfully place implants, it is important to know all the peculiarities of the patient's oral structure.

Reliable root canal filling of the affected tooth also requires detailed imaging to detect any inflammatory processes and to locate specific features of the canal structure.

No paradontist or orthopedist can guarantee optimal treatment unless he or she is provided with a 3D dental image. It is necessary to determine the full picture of the disease – stage of neglect, prevalence and features of inflammation.

This study helps in modeling and planning the correction of an uneven dentition.

Indications and contraindications

3D imaging of the jaw and teeth has indications that include:

  • anomalies in the development of the dentition and the location of teeth;
  • complications associated with endodontic treatment;
  • the need to develop a program of orthodontic, therapeutic or orthopedic therapy;
  • the presence of diseases in the maxillary sinuses;
  • suspicion of benign or malignant neoplasms of bone structures;
  • injuries of the maxillofacial region.

Contraindications for dental computed tomography of the jaws and teeth include pregnancy. This radiation exposure can be prescribed by medical specialists on an individual basis when the benefit of the procedure for the mother is greater than the possible risk to the child.

How the process works

A protective apron is put on the patient before the examination so that the radiation dose is lower.

The patient is seated in the center of the tomograph. Depending on the request of the attending physician, the examination can be performed both in a fixed head position (the patient's chin is placed on a special stand) and in a natural head position.

The doctor selects the individual scanning mode and the required radiation intensity, and sets the iris in such a position as to capture almost the entire maxillofacial region. After that, the scanning process begins. The device makes rotational movements around the patient's head. The patient receives the processed results on an electronic medium or in printed form. The procedure takes no more than five minutes.

Differences from traditional radiologic examination

Before the advent of computed tomography, classic 2D X-rays were used to obtain images. It is still used today, when the more modern and accurate 3D method is unavailable, to obtain targeted and panoramic images that give doctors a rough idea of the patient's oral cavity. However, even high-quality X-rays do not allow specialists to be sure that there is no inflammatory process in the tissues, which in the case of prosthetics can develop into a dangerous form. Only the results of a CT scan can give such confidence.

Thanks to the latest research method, specialists are able to see more complex pathological processes, the structure of the dentoalveolar system and other individual features of the patient.

The 3D tomography scanner enables optimal and error-free treatment planning. At the same time, the patient saves money and nerves. This is why CT scanning is one of the most advanced and sought-after diagnostic methods.

Cost

You can do a CT scan in St. Petersburg in our clinic «Konfidencia». The cost of such diagnostics is from 3500 rubles. For more detailed information it is recommended to contact our consultants and make an appointment. In the clinic during the examination, the doctor will give more detailed recommendations and will guide you on the price of the study.

Why is it better to take a 3D jaw scan at our clinic?

Our clinic is equipped with the most modern equipment for dental CT scans.

The tomograph operates in high-speed mode and utilizes image intensification technology. The radiation load is many times lower than on tomographs (used in general medical practice), due to the features of the beam and the receiving matrix. You will significantly save time – after a few minutes the results of the study will be in your hands. Thanks to high-quality three-dimensional image, the doctor will be able to correctly diagnose and prescribe effective treatment. The high qualification of our doctors allows us to act as competently as possible.

The examination results obtained with our cone beam computed tomography scanner allow us to evaluate not only the pathologies of the dento-mandibular system, but also the condition:

  • of the nasal sinuses
  • of the bony structures of the eye sockets
  • of the pituitary bone bed
  • inner and middle ear structures
  • of the craniovertebral region and cervical vertebrae.
  • airway volume

This makes it possible for our study to be used by other specialists (otorhinolaryngologists, neurologists, endocrinologists, somnologists, ophthalmologists, vertebrologists and osteopaths). Thus, you get a study that provides a huge amount of information about the condition of the entire maxillofacial and cranio-vertebral areas and allows you to save money that would have to be spent additionally to obtain the same data.

Please note that we use only CLKT images taken on our CT scanner for diagnosis at Confidentia Clinic.

We cannot perform a quality diagnosis using someone else's scans for the following reasons:

  1. The clinic has adopted a standard of dynamic monitoring of treatment results - this is possible if the diagnostic and subsequent control CT scans are performed with one device (tomograph) and work in one program that provides storage and analysis of all images.
  2. The clinic offers the possibility of CT description by a radiologist and CT analysis with the help of artificial intelligence in the diagnocat program. The programs are developed by KAVO and coordinated with the KAVO CT scanner.
  3. The icat vision program (KAVO) is the only one that allows you to create a three-dimensional image of the root canal system, which is necessary before endodontic treatment.

We are waiting for you at «Konfidencia» Clinic. Make an appointment for an X-ray by leaving a request in the feedback form or by phone – 8 (812) 326 12 09.
