Lingual braces

Customized internal braces created using 3D modeling technology
Absolute invisibility of treatment
Temporarily unavailable in Russia

The majority of orthodontic patients — adults who would prefer to leave orthodontic treatment unnoticeable, with minimal inconvenience to their own appearance.

Customary vestibular systems are placed on the outside of the teeth and are visible when smiling or talking.

Or you can have lingual braces fitted and make orthodontic treatment completely invisible to others.

What are lingual braces?

Lingual braces are placed on the inner side of the teeth facing the tongue. They are invisible even with a wide smile and active speech.  They are only ligated, i.e. connected to the arch with special rubber bands.

Advantages and disadvantages of Damon Q metal braces

Advantages:
  • Completely invisible
Braces are installed on the inside of the dentition and are not visible even with active facial expressions. Braces will not affect your usual lifestyle and appearance.

  • Preliminary visualization of a smile
Before making braces, a virtual and physical 3D model of the future smile is created. The patient and the doctor know what kind of treatment result to expect.

  • Without harm to the enamel
The enamel on the inside of the teeth is strong, less prone to demineralization and caries. The braces pads are made individually, precisely repeating the relief of the tooth surface for perfect fastening.

  • Individual design
The arch and the braces are made according to an individual setup model. Personal braces in a single copy guarantee a quick visible result after 4 months and treatment of cases of any complexity.

Disadvantages:
  • High cost
Individual lingual braces are on average more expensive than conventional vestibular systems or aligners.

Contraindications to the installation of lingual braces

  • Age up to 11-12 years, since the jaw and dentition have not yet fully formed

  • Severe degree of bruxism (gnashing of teeth). In this case, the braces may break.

  • A narrow small jaw, which may not have enough space for a lingual structure. Treatment in this case is possible, but requires prior preparation.

  • The small size and height of the teeth, at which the braces themselves will be larger than the tooth surface.

Orthodontic treatment process
1
Diagnostic stage
Orthodontic treatment begins with a consultation with an orthodontist, during which an anamnesis is collected and 3D images of the jaw are taken. Based on the collected material, the orthodontist draws up a treatment plan. Preparation includes a complete oral cavity sanitation and professional cleaning. Afterwards, impressions are taken and, together with the doctor's comments, sent to the manufacturing facility for the fabrication of personalized braces.
1-2 weeks
2
Modeling and production stage of braces
The laboratory performs 3D scanning of impressions, first creates a virtual 3D model of the future smile, and then a physical one. Ready models are coordinated with the attending physician. Next, a personalized copy of braces and arches is made using CAD/CAM technology (3D milling with a program-controlled machine). The finished products and physical models are sent to the clinic.
2-3 months
3
Installation of braces
Lingual braces are placed on the teeth by indirect fixation method, that is, they are not glued to the teeth point by point, but are transferred at the same time to the entire tooth row with a special mouth guard.
1-2 hours
4
Orthodontic treatment
Activations of lingual braces take place approximately once every 1.5 months, during the whole period about 16 activations are required. The first visible results of treatment appear after 4 months. During treatment it is necessary to have periodic professional cleanings.
1,5-2 years
5
Removal of braces and retention period
After the braces are removed, the patient is fitted with retainers to consolidate the result. During the retention period, the patient visits the orthodontist for checkups. Ignoring the retainers will cause the teeth to become crooked again.

What do I need to know before installing lingual braces?

  • Teeth cannot be treated or removed while the bracket system is in production. They are made exactly according to the casts of the patient and may not be suitable if the relief of the teeth has changed.

  • Treatment with braces requires the use of transparent external elements – buttons and rubber bands. These elements may be visible to others.

  • Long period of adaptation after braces – it can take one month. Speech changes because the locks rub your tongue. There is a special wax to help with the discomfort.

  • Internal braces are difficult to access and require more care. To care for them, you need an irrigator – a device that cleans your teeth with a jet of pressurized water and special brushes for braces.

  • The bracket system should be treated with the utmost care. If any of the individual elements break down, you will have to re-take the casts and send them to production. This will increase the time and cost of treatment, and delays will reduce its effectiveness.

  • The orthodontist must have a certificate authorizing him to work with lingual braces. Due to the internal location of the braces and the mechanics of their action, there is a possibility of side effects if the installation is inaccurate.

What does the price of lingual braces consist of?

With all the advantages of lingual braces, one and the most significant disadvantage — is the high price. However, it has clear grounds and is made up of the following factors:

  • The cost of standard orthodontic procedures: diagnostics, 3D images, preparation of a treatment plan, installation and removal of braces.

  • The cost of high-quality alloys: Win and Incognito braces are made of cobalt-chrome and gold alloys, respectively. They are hypoallergenic, do not oxidize, do not leave a taste in the mouth and are suitable for almost any patient.

  • Creating personal copies requires expensive equipment, sophisticated computer technology, the work of highly qualified specialists and transportation costs.

  • The cost of more complex activations. Lingual braces — ligature braces, which in itself complicates each activation, and are difficult to access because they are on the inside of the teeth.

Lingual braces meet all the requirements of modern orthodontics: efficiency, discreetness, individual approach and high quality materials. Installation of internal systems — a premium solution to the problems of bite and aesthetics of the dentition. The patient receives a predictable result and comfortable treatment without compromising the appearance.
