History Ormco

Ormco (Orthodontic Research and Manufacturing Company – Orthodontic Research & Manufacturing Company) – is not only engaged in supplying and manufacturing world-renowned orthodontic appliances, but also scientific, research and educational activities worldwide.

Ormco was founded in 1960 by Frank Miller in North America. The company became an instant market leader — the preformed rings and pre-assembled brackets of its own production became a real breakthrough in orthodontics.

Damon bracket system

The true miracle of modern orthodontics – system Damon was developed jointly by Ormco and Dr. Dwight Damon in the 2000s.

The system consists of high-tech arches of special shape and passive self-ligating brackets with the possibility of selecting the torque. Treatment with this system allows the orthodontist to work with low forces – such tooth movements are as physiological and gentle as possible to the bone tissue, periodontium and gingiva.

The principle of passive self-ligation by Damon

Unlike ligature braces, in which the ligature prevents the arc from sliding in the groove, and provides enough strong pressure on the tooth, especially in the first days after activation.
Damon braces are arranged in a different way: in braces, the arc is held not by a ligature, but by a lid, so the arc moves freely in the bracket groove. The principle of passive self-ligation is that due to the absence of friction forces, significantly less forces are involved to move the teeth. The arches of self-ligating braces, made of a high-tech alloy of copper, nickel and titanium, ensure the action of constant weak forces throughout the orthodontic treatment.
