How long do adults wear braces?
The doctor's answer
The average time of wearing braces is 1.5 years, but it can be as long as 2-2.5 years.
There is a perception that young people under the age of 18 are treated faster, which is partly true – the restructuring of the dento-alveolar system is more active at this age. However, there are individual factors – the shape and size of the tooth roots, bone density, metabolic rate and other factors that have a much greater impact on the speed of tooth movement than age.
Also, the duration of orthodontic treatment depends directly on the complexity of the clinical case and the severity of the pathology. This means that a patient at 25, 30 or 45 years old may have a shorter treatment period than a teenager at 13-15 years old, or vice versa.
The treatment period is determined by the orthodontist after analyzing the CT scan, photographs, cephalometric analysis and other data necessary to assess the complexity of the clinical case.
