Tooth extraction before braces
Hello. I am 30 years old and had braces 14 years ago. I have a crossbite, my lower jaw is protruding forward, my chin is slightly to the side. It's not obvious to the eye, but I can tell from the pictures. I had a canine growing in from the top left and had a fifth tooth extracted from the top left. I don't like that I don't have an equal number of teeth and my jaws are crooked, my face is not symmetrical. I want to remove the other five teeth and the lower eight, 5 teeth in total. I want braces and surgery on two jaws.
The doctor's answer
There are certain indications for which we perform tooth extractions:
- Orthodontic indications — when space is needed from an extracted tooth to move teeth for bite correction and tooth alignment.
- Therapeutic indications — if the tooth cannot be treated. The gap from the extracted tooth can be closed with your own teeth in the process of orthodontic treatment or retained (with subsequent implantation and prosthetics). In the case of 8 teeth, we also remove them if they harm the therapeutic condition of the neighboring teeth (7ok).
- Surgical indications — for 8oc, when they are painful to erupt, especially if they are retined.
Without evaluating all the diagnostic data, we cannot say with 100% certainty whether the premolars and 8-incisors will need to be extracted. An in-person consultation is required for a preliminary evaluation.
Please note that these recommendations are for informational purposes only. Consultation and diagnosis by an orthodontist is required to make a diagnosis and prescribe a treatment plan
