Can I eat chocolate with braces?
The doctor's answer
We all love chocolate and it is certainly not necessary to completely eliminate it from our diet during orthodontic treatment. But you should be careful with different types of chocolate:
- Do not bite into very hard dark chocolate — braces may chip;
- Do not choose chocolate with nuts, so as not to break or peel off the braces;
- If you have transparent braces installed, then chocolate can change their color with frequent use and unsatisfactory brushing of teeth.
The main rule for chocolate lovers: brush your teeth thoroughly after eating. Chocolate is quite viscous and sticky, it remains on the enamel and details of the bracket system and provokes the reproduction of bacteria. To prevent the formation of caries, it is necessary to brush your teeth in a timely manner using brushes, a single-stick brush and dental floss.
