Can I join the army with braces?
The doctor's answer
Wearing braces is not in itself a reason for deferment from military service, braces are accepted in the army. However, it is not recommended to serve with braces in place, as the design requires regular monitoring by a doctor. Without activation within the time frame set by the treatment plan, the braces will not work or even worsen the clinical situation. It is also difficult to maintain good oral hygiene with braces in the military.
If an orthodontic patient intends to serve in the military, it is recommended that the system be removed and treatment continued at a later date.
If the patient has a severe bite abnormality that impairs food chewing and significantly reduces quality of life — this may be grounds for exemption from service. Such pathology must be recorded by a physician and documented.
