Can an MRI be done with braces?
The doctor's answer
With braces, you can do an MRI.
The brackets do not heat up, do not electrocute, and are not magnetized. Metal braces made of steel can distort the study — they produce very strong interference, making it impossible to make a correct diagnosis from an MRI scan.
If an MRI is needed to examine any other area other than the head, even steel braces will not affect its quality. If metal systems are still installed and an MRI of the head is needed, check with your doctor about the alloy your metal braces and arches are made of. Braces and bars made of titanium, nickel, gold do not affect the quality of MRI scans at all.
